 FreeSpace - FreeSpace is a small program for monitoring how much
approximate record time is left on a user specified volume ( in minutes )
for digital hard disk recorders. It is updated in the background.  As long
as you can see it's window, you can be running StudioVision, Digital
Performer, ProDeck, Deck or whatever and have a running update of how much
record time is left. FreeSpace has only been tested with StudioVision and
Sound Designer II.  If you are using different software check it out on
something that doesn't matter first so I'm not responsible for fatal
crashes.  It has proved *very* stable with StudioVision.

To keep this stack small, I have only put a a few CD's into it...enough so

and a box will provide predictive frequency response plots about a given
design.  It can also assist in optimizing port dimensions for vented
systems.  The XFCN's used do the math for sealed and ported boxes.  They
were originally done in HyperTalk but proved to be too slow when computing
300 points. Finally, the stack will allow overlaying a couple designs on a
single plot for comparison purposes.

 Soundhack 0.52 - I am writing this program to perform various soundfile
manipulations on the Macintosh that have previously not been available.  At
the present, I have implemented soundfile type conversion, soundfile
convolution, a binaural filter and an amplitude analysis and gain change
module.  In the near future I hope to add the phase vocoder, a spectral
dynamics processor, and Larry Polansky's mutation synthesis.  SoundHack can
now read and write the following formats: Sound Designer II, Audio IFF,
IRCAM and NeXT .snd (or Sun .au).  It can read (but not write), DSP
Designer and raw data files. It can now handle 8-bit µLaw, 8-bit linear,

neat stuff like recording sounds and trying to identify them (music theory,
bird sounds for science, etc.) This works with the microphone that comes
with all new Macs except the original Classic and PowerBook 100. If you
have an older Mac, or one not equipped with a Mic, you can use the
MacRecorder. See docs for where to find it.  Each word or phrase can be up
to six seconds long. Lists can be as large as disk space allows. There is a
review and test mode, and scores can be saved to disk. This is fun!

typing in and capturing the names from Sound Mover™ files (Sound Mover is
copyright by Riccardo Ettore), and just had the task of inserting the sizes
of each of these sounds into the database.  But, since I had about 500–600
sounds [I now have over 1,000! needing their sizes noted and entered, I
thought: why not write a program to do that for me?  And here it is. It
asks the user for a name and location to save the output file, and then
allows them to repeatedly open Sound Mover or HyperCard files containing
snd resources and add them to the output file, including all of the fields
I have in my database (which is done in Omnis 5).

 Sound Reverser - Here is the Sound Reverser program, a “useless-ware”
System 7 Drag-and-Drop application which takes a sound file containing a
digitized sound and produces a new file with the sound reversed.  It can
provide hours of audio enjoyment!  Perhaps if someone can come up with
digitized samples of “Revolution Number Nine” or “Stairway to Heaven” we
can hear what demonic messages they contain! To use it, just drag a file
containing a sound onto the application’s icon.  The program will create a
new file with a sound which plays backwards.  The name of the new sound
file is the name the original with a “~” prepended.

 Launch - switching startup sounds and screens. There is no easy way (that I
know of) to switch StartupSounds. This program runs at startup time and
renames files if the following conditions are met.  First, the system
folder must be named "System Folder".  Second, the sound files must be
renamed to ".Soundx" where x is a letter from A to Z.  The file and folder
names are case sensitive.  If one has eight SUS's, then the files should be
named ".SoundA" thorugh ".SoundH".  The first time through, ".SoundA will
be renamed StartupSound.  The next time, StartupSound will named back to
".SoundA" and ".SoundB" will be named StartupSound.  And so on...

 This is an Excel template I created using Excel version 1.5.  It's a very
simple way to quickly decide which CD tracks go on which side of a
cassette when you record it.  All you do is enter the minutes/seconds of
each track on the disc and the template 'splits' the CD into the two
closest matched sides according to time.  I usually record the longest
side first, flip the tape over, record the shortest side, and then splice
